Like most accident reconstruction firms, we rely heavily on crash reports and video of thousands of crash tested vehicles. These demonstrate the crush patterns that occur in various angle collisions. In addition, they provide acceptance testing that evaluate whether the highway appurtenance (Guard Rail, Barriers, Attenuators, etc...) can perform to accepted standards. We have numerous sources that we have used to provide a collection of crash data that is broad based. We have, or can quickly get, almost any video that involves simple front, rear or side impact collisions, since we have access to videos and reports from every nationally known testing facility in the country.

The reconstruction simulation below presents four levels of vehicle travel on four separate road segments. This simulation was very cost effective because the scene had been "scanned" by our 3-D Imaging ScanStation Surveyor. All of the dimensions and the roadway, as well as the side slopes and even vegetation and "phone" lines, were brought into our 3 D Studio Max program from the ScanStation survey.
We used the ScanStation to model the roadway and its surface so that it would be exactly like the original. Once the survey is brought into the reconstruction program, then the scene below can be simulated to include irregularities in the road surface to exactly recreate what happened in the accident. The ScanStation virtual image is "ultra-accurate" and makes the simulation "ultra-easy."
Cost? Far less than any comparable simulation, including the cost of the most accurate survey available, the ScanStation survey…(ScanStation surveys are only slightly more expensive than Total Station surveys). (For more information, see "High Definition Laser and Total Station Surveys.)

There are many facets to Accident Reconstruction. In almost every accident analysis, even those that seem to be exclusively traffic/civil or transportation engineering related, it is necessary to analyze some components of accident reconstruction to support a causation or lack of causation theory.

PC Crash can depict the accident simulation in almost any accident. In order to provide even more impact, we can also use the actual scene photos to reconstruct the accident more realistically. We frequently provide a video reconstruction using the actual scene of the collision, and even the vehicles themselves, as part of the reenactment. The PICTURES below are from presentations made from the perspective of an approaching red-light running driver. The first picture shows the scene, complete with fire truck and erring red-light running driver's truck taken shortly after the accident. The next is a photo showing the fire truck and the accident removed by digital software. (This was accomplished with only the police photo which was converted to a digital file.)

The construction truck, parked to the right in the picture, was said to provide a sight obstruction for the errant red-light runner. In picture 4 below, we added a photo of the SUV that was traveling left to right before impact to show that the SUV was very visible to the red-light runner prior to the accident. A video simulation showed the actual SUV passing behind the truck and across into the path of the red-light running driver. (Pictures 3 & 4 below)

The second set of pictures below (5 & 6), show a box truck pulling into the intersection when the light phased to green, with the box truck stopping to avoid being struck by the approaching red light runner. This was then used in a simulation to show that sight restrictions occur frequently at traffic signal locations. In addition, it is obvious that the traffic lights were very visible to the driver as he approached, negating the theory that he could not clearly see the three lights as he approached.

Accident reconstruction analysis involving Guard Rail, Median Barrier, Attenuator, Crash Cushion or other Barriers are a common activity for our staff. A client that requests our services in accident reconstruction can rely on our ability to provide an accurate analysis and depiction of the accident. Photographic evidence can be crucial to your case. And, if the subject area has changed since the incident, it can affect whether photos or videos are admissible. We have sophisticated software and equipment that can change the subject area back to the original conditions, providing for the admissibility of otherwise inadmissible evidence.
